LEAD SYSTEM ENGINEER

Job Description

Lead the system engineering team for one or more projects within D-Orbit engineering team. Carry out the system-related activities on D-Orbit spacecraft, following the whole subsystem lifecycle. Design and develop the subsystem, coordinating with designers and developers of all areas of the engineering and manufacturing teams. Manage technical data exchanges with suppliers. Follow prototyping and engineering activities up to subsystem qualification. Take part in AIV of flight model and support operations from mission setup to in-flight system testing and maintenance.

Tasks And Responsibilities

The duties of a spacecraft system engineer during the entire duration of a mission typically include:

  • Defining top level design and requirements, starting from mission and payload requirements;
  • Designing and verifying detailed system and operation, in coordination with the rest of the spacecraft subsystems;
  • Leading subsystem and software specifications and development;
  • Defining system operations and support to in-flight operations during launch and early orbital phase (LEOP);
  • Leading the project technical team;
  • Acting as a technical interface with customers, program managers, and the commercial team;
  • Acting as an interface with the CTO for technology acquisition and development implementation;
  • Compiling and editing technical documents;
  • Managing system budget and team schedule.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Knowledge of system engineering;
  • Knowledge of orbital mechanics, and system-level knowledge of all spacecraft subsystems;
  • At least two years of working experience;
  • Having supported at least one flown mission as part of the system engineering team;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;

COMPONENTS ENGINEER

Job Description

A lot of activities that are straightforward in other fields can be tricky in the aerospace industry. One of these activities is the selection, management, and procurement of components and parts. Electrical components have special features to work in space, so their procurement can take a lot of months and their cost can be up to 100 times the cost of a similar, standard device. To optimize this activity, we are looking for a components engineer that will be the main interface between the designers and the manufacturing team.

You will become part of the design team as component expert, and you’ll have the chance to study in depth the technical characteristics of the components. Your expertise in components will support the designers when preparing analysis like part stress analysis and worst-case analysis.

In this dynamic position, you will interface with lots of people both within the company, and among the biggest international suppliers of aerospace components.

Tasks And Responsibilities

  • Select components on the basis of designers’ requirements, procurement data like cost and delivery time, the population of the company part list, the selection of tools to best manage the part list, and the interaction between part list, electric CAD and warehouse management.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Good knowledge of electrical components and components characteristics;

Product Assurance Operator

Job Description

We are looking for a product assurance operator to be integrated in the D-Orbit quality team. The position requires checking the quality of incoming and outgoing materials or products, setting up the quality area in a clean room environment, verifying that all the necessary activities have been performed to ensure compliance with quality standards, and audit testing results to determine if product specifications are met. Your function will also require significant interaction with other company departments, like technical, purchase and manufacturing.

Tasks And Responsibilities

  • Surveillance of payload integration, system tests, launch campaign, AIT activities, NRBs;
  • Applying the formal acceptance requirements and conducting the final reviews of all contractual deliverable items;
  • Recommend improvements to company infrastructure and processes;
  • Report project status;
  • Inspect, test, and measure materials using gauges, calipers, and micrometers, and operate electronic inspection equipment to ensure that all necessary procedures and products comply to a high standard;
  • Conduct design assessment, inspection, and review of assigned products;
  • Maintain compliance with internal and third party standards;
  • Create and update reports for quality manager,
  • Perform product quality audits and provide audit reports with recommendations;
  • Maintain effective communication with team members, customers and suppliers to facilitate problem identification and resolution in timely manner;
  • Maintain documentations related to all product assurance activities and initiatives;
  • Assist in continuous product improvement efforts;
  • Works with manufacturing to ensure all quality standards are met, addressing any deficiencies with appropriate corrective action.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Technical background, with understanding of space technology;
  • At least two years of experience in product assurance and/or quality assurance in the aerospace domain;
  • Knowledge of configuration management and the implementation of product assurance within a quality system certified to UNI 9100 is considered an asset;
  • Good interpersonal, organization and communication skills, with the ability to work in a team environment;
  • Experience in electronic assemblies and soldering processes;
  • Familiarity with instrumentation and equipment used for electronic production;
  • Knowledge of mechanical measuring instruments;
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office package;
  • Knowledge of ERP, PDM/PLM tools is considered a plus;
  • Ability to perform operations independently,

  • Subsystem modules (TRX, antennas, harness, etc.) definition and procurement. Activities might include design, prototyping, testing and manufacturing of in-house developed hardware or technical support to selection, procurement and acceptance of third party supplied items,
  • LEOP and commissioning of COM subsystem,
  • Authoring of Technical documents,
  • Managing Link budget,
  • Executing RF finite-element pattern analysis.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Knowledge of system engineering basics;
  • Proficient in MATLAB / Simulink signal processing toolbox;
